Kansas City, MO – Widespread rain is expected to continue through tonight, with some areas south of Interstate 70 potentially receiving more than one inch of rainfall.

According to the US National Weather Service in Kansas City, steady showers will persist throughout the day and into the overnight hours. The heaviest rainfall totals are forecast south of I-70, where localized amounts exceeding one inch are possible.

Communities including Lee’s Summit, Overland Park, Olathe, and areas along U.S. Highway 69 and Interstate 35 could experience periods of moderate rainfall. Probability forecasts show rain chances ranging from 70% to 95% across much of the Kansas City metro during peak hours today before gradually tapering late tonight.

Temperatures are expected to remain in the low to mid-50s, which is above normal for mid-February. Forecasters say above-average temperatures will continue through next week, with highs climbing into the mid-60s to lower 70s Monday through Wednesday.

While flooding is not currently anticipated, drivers along I-70, I-35, I-29, and surrounding highways should remain alert for reduced visibility and ponding on roadways during heavier downpours.

The rainfall may provide beneficial moisture to the region following recent dry conditions.

Commuters traveling this evening and early Sunday should allow extra travel time as rain continues across the metro and surrounding counties.
