Kansas City, Missouri – Scattered snow showers are expected late this morning and through the afternoon across the Kansas City metro, with gusty winds creating brief visibility and travel concerns, according to the National Weather Service.
In a Friday morning update, forecasters said snow showers will be light and intermittent, with total accumulations limited to a few tenths of an inch. However, northwest wind gusts exceeding 30 mph may combine with falling snow to reduce visibility to under one mile at times, especially during the afternoon hours.
The National Weather Service noted that the strongest winds are expected later today, increasing the risk for blowing snow, even where accumulation remains minimal. Temperatures are forecast to range from the upper 30s to lower 40s, which should limit snow sticking to road surfaces but may still allow brief slick spots during heavier bursts.
Motorists are urged to use caution during periods of reduced visibility, particularly on open highways and bridges. Conditions may change quickly as snow showers move through the region.
Looking ahead, temperatures are expected to turn colder over the weekend, with wind chills potentially falling below zero during the early morning hours. Additional light snow chances may return early next week.
Drivers, commuters, and delivery workers across the Kansas City area should allow extra travel time and stay alert for sudden changes in road conditions today.
