Kansas City, Missouri – Snow showers and gusty winds could impact travel across the Kansas City area this afternoon and evening as a cold front moves through central Missouri.

According to the National Weather Service in Kansas City, snow showers are possible between 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. Saturday, particularly east of the metro area. Winds are expected to become gusty behind the cold front, with gusts reaching up to 30 mph, which could lead to rapid reductions in visibility when snow showers pass through.

Forecasters say snowfall amounts are expected to remain light, with little to no accumulation anticipated. However, brief bursts of snow combined with strong winds may create localized travel impacts, especially on highways and open roadways during the late afternoon and early evening hours.

The NWS emphasized that the primary concern is not accumulation, but sudden changes in visibility, which can catch drivers off guard. Motorists are encouraged to reduce speeds, increase following distance, and remain alert for changing road conditions during the peak window for snow showers.

Conditions are expected to improve later tonight as clearing skies and decreasing winds move into the region. By late evening into Sunday morning, winds should ease and visibility concerns are expected to diminish.

Looking ahead, warmer conditions are forecast to return Monday and Tuesday, before another shift toward cooler weather mid to late week. The NWS noted that sub-freezing temperatures may be possible next weekend, though details remain uncertain at this time.

This weather may be especially relevant for evening commuters and those traveling east of Kansas City during the late afternoon hours.

Residents are advised to continue monitoring updates from the National Weather Service as conditions evolve throughout the day.
