Kansas City, MO – A wave of intense summer heat and humidity grips Kansas City through Friday, pushing heat index values past 100°F and bringing the risk of spot thunderstorms. Temperatures will reach the mid-90s Thursday and soar to near 96°F on Friday, with heat warnings in effect for much of western Missouri as oppressive conditions challenge outdoor workers and vulnerable residents.

According to the National Weather Service in Pleasant Hill, the region will see a slight chance for storms before sunrise Thursday, but most of the day turns sunny and sweltering. South winds may gust over 20 mph, making the heat feel even more intense. Friday stays mostly clear, with only a minor storm risk overnight as lows remain uncomfortably warm in the upper 70s to low 80s.

Relief remains distant, as Saturday brings more highs in the mid-90s before clouds increase and storm chances rise late Saturday into Sunday. Widespread showers and thunderstorms could bring downpours and cooler air by late Sunday and Monday, providing some temporary respite. Residents are urged to limit strenuous activity, stay hydrated, and check on neighbors and pets during peak heat.

The heat and humidity are expected to last into early next week, with additional advisories possible. Stay tuned for updated alerts, and plan for changing weather by Sunday night.
