Kansas City, Missouri – A brief warm-up across parts of Missouri and eastern Kansas will be short-lived, as another push of Arctic air is expected to arrive late Sunday night, bringing sub-zero wind chills back to the region, according to the National Weather Service Kansas City.

In a social media update posted early Sunday, the National Weather Service said scattered flurries or sprinkles are possible Sunday afternoon as temperatures rise slightly. Despite the warmer air, breezy winds will keep conditions feeling cold throughout the day.

Forecasters said the second surge of Arctic air will move in late Sunday night into Monday, causing wind chills to fall below zero by Monday morning across much of the area. A Cold Weather Advisory is expected Monday morning for Putnam, Adair, and Schuyler counties, where the coldest wind chills are anticipated.

The National Weather Service’s outlook also shows that bitter cold will persist into early Monday, followed by a gradual return to more seasonable temperatures by midweek. Officials noted that low-end precipitation chances may return toward the end of the week, though details were not specified.

Residents are encouraged to prepare for rapidly changing conditions, dress in warm layers, and limit time outdoors during the coldest periods. Even with the brief warm-up, forecasters emphasized that dangerous wind chills can develop quickly once Arctic air arrives.
