Dry conditions and above-normal temperatures will carry the Kansas City region through New Year’s Eve and into New Year’s Day, according to the National Weather Service in Kansas City.

NWS officials report that high temperatures today will rise into the lower 40s to lower 50s, allowing 2025 to end on a mild note. For those celebrating outdoors tonight, temperatures at midnight are expected to be in the 30s across much of the metro area, including Kansas City, Independence, Lee’s Summit, and Olathe.

The New Year’s Eve/New Year’s Day temperature forecast shows overnight lows generally falling into the upper teens to mid-20s by early Thursday morning, with colder pockets north and east of the metro. Despite the chill, no precipitation or winter weather hazards are expected overnight.

According to the National Weather Service, New Year’s Day (Thursday) will bring seasonable conditions, with highs reaching the lower 30s to mid-40s across western Missouri and eastern Kansas. Skies are expected to remain dry, and a warming trend is forecast heading into the weekend, with continued dry weather through at least the next seven days.

Road conditions are expected to remain favorable through the holiday period, with Interstate 70, Interstate 35, Interstate 435, and U.S. Highway 71 remaining dry and free of winter impacts. The lack of snow or ice should support smooth travel for holiday gatherings and return trips.

The National Weather Service notes that the extended dry stretch reduces winter driving hazards but may contribute to colder overnight lows due to clear skies.

For commuters, service workers, and New Year’s Eve revelers, the combination of dry roads, light winds, and mild daytime temperatures offers a relatively quiet transition into 2026.
