Kansas City, Mo. – Temperatures across Missouri will soar into the mid-90s through the weekend, with Kansas City and surrounding areas facing highs 15 degrees above normal until Monday. The National Weather Service warns that the unusual stretch of heat could strain power use and elevate health risks, particularly for those outdoors during the afternoon hours.
According to the National Weather Service in Pleasant Hill, sunny skies and light southwest winds will keep conditions dry through Monday, with highs near 94 to 96 degrees each afternoon. The heat index may climb even higher, increasing the potential for heat-related illness. Overnight lows will provide little relief, staying in the lower 70s.
Northwest and central Missouri, including cities such as St. Joseph, Columbia, and Warrensburg, will experience similar conditions. Local emergency managers encourage residents to limit outdoor work during peak heat, stay hydrated, and check on vulnerable neighbors.
Relief may come by midweek. Isolated thunderstorms are expected late Tuesday, with better chances for showers and storms across western and central Missouri by Wednesday. Until then, the hot, dry pattern will dominate.
Warnings remain in effect through Monday, with updates expected early next week as storm chances increase.
