Kansas City, Mo. – Dangerous heat and humidity will grip Missouri through Sunday, with heat index values climbing past 100°F across much of the state. Drivers, outdoor workers, and anyone without air conditioning are urged to take precautions as conditions remain stifling, especially south of Highway 36.
According to the National Weather Service in Kansas City, heat index values could reach 105°F in Butler, Sedalia, and Moberly through Sunday evening. Kansas City may see readings between 100–104°F, while northern cities such as St. Joseph and Maryville will also face oppressive conditions. Meteorologists noted the heat may linger into Monday depending on cloud cover, before cooler and less humid air moves in midweek.
Isolated showers and storms may develop Saturday afternoon in central and southern Missouri, with another round possible Sunday. Any rainfall would provide temporary relief but won’t be widespread. The agency cautions residents to limit outdoor activity, stay hydrated, and check on neighbors and pets during peak afternoon hours.
Rain showers may increase Monday and Tuesday before temperatures trend downward by midweek. Heat advisories remain in effect through Sunday evening, with further updates possible.
