Missouri and Kansas neighborhoods are warming quickly under bright late-winter sun, but dry grass and gusty winds are setting the stage for rapid fire spread by midday. One spark along a roadside could race across open fields within minutes.

According to the National Weather Service in Kansas City/Pleasant Hill, a Red Flag Warning remains in effect from noon to 6 p.m. across eastern Kansas and western Missouri. Southwest to west winds will blow 15 to 20 mph, with gusts between 25 and 30 mph. Relative humidity will fall below 25 percent. Afternoon highs reach 73 degrees.

That mix of warmth, wind, and dry air creates critical fire weather conditions across the Kansas City metro, including areas near I-70, I-35, and Highway 69. Avoid outdoor burning. Secure tow chains. Dispose of cigarettes properly. Fire crews warn any blaze could spread quickly.

Tonight turns mostly clear with lows near 43 degrees. Saturday stays sunny and mild, with highs around 70. Winds shift northwest late, signaling change.

Clouds increase Saturday night as temperatures drop to 29. Sunday brings a slight chance of snow before 9 a.m., then rain develops. Some periods may mix with snow during the afternoon. Highs reach 41. By Sunday night, rain remains likely and could briefly mix with snow again. Minor snow accumulation is possible, generally under a quarter inch.

Monday stays cloudy with a chance of rain and highs near 43. Rain becomes likely again Tuesday, with highs climbing to 52. Thunderstorms may develop by midweek as March begins unsettled.

The 6–10 day outlook favors above-normal temperatures, hinting at stronger Spring Warmth next week.
