Kansas City, Missouri – Snow continues to blanket much of eastern Kansas and western Missouri, creating widespread travel problems across the Kansas City metro and surrounding communities through Sunday evening.
According to the National Weather Service in Kansas City and Pleasant Hill, a Winter Storm Warning remains in effect through Sunday afternoon as additional snowfall moves across the region. Most areas can expect another 4 to 6 inches of snow, adding to already snow-packed roads and sidewalks.
Communities including Kansas City, Independence, Lee’s Summit, Overland Park, Olathe, Liberty, and Warrensburg are likely to see persistent snow-covered conditions. Major routes such as I-70, I-35, I-435, U.S. 69, and Highway 71 may remain slick, especially during periods of steadier snowfall. Rural roads across central Missouri and northeast Kansas could become even harder to navigate as snow continues to accumulate.
Travel could become very difficult at times, particularly overnight and again Sunday morning. Drivers are urged to slow down, allow extra stopping distance, and avoid unnecessary trips. Carrying emergency supplies is strongly recommended if travel cannot be postponed.
Snow is expected to gradually taper late Sunday, though lingering slick spots may persist into Sunday night as crews work to clear roadways. The warning remains in effect through Sunday evening, and additional updates are expected as conditions evolve.
