Kansas City, MO – Light showers and drizzle are moving across the Kansas City region today, with the chance for an isolated thunderstorm developing south of Interstate 70 this afternoon. Cloud cover is keeping daytime highs in the low to mid-70s, offering a cooler break in what has otherwise been a warm September stretch.

According to the National Weather Service in Kansas City, scattered light rain is the main concern for most of the area, though isolated storms could form along and south of I-70 later today. Forecasters note that no widespread severe weather is expected, but brief downpours may affect travel during the evening commute.

Looking ahead, dry and seasonably warm conditions are expected to return on Thursday and last through the weekend. Highs are forecast to climb back into the upper 70s and lower 80s from Friday into early next week, with mostly sunny skies dominating the outlook.

The extended forecast shows the Kansas City metro, along with nearby communities including Lee’s Summit, Overland Park, and St. Joseph, trending toward above-average temperatures as September closes out.

Residents traveling south of I-70 this afternoon should keep an eye on changing skies, while those across northern Missouri can expect mostly cloudy but dry conditions.
