Kansas City, Missouri – Rising waters on Indian Creek have swamped roads and parking areas along the Kansas-Missouri border, forcing closures and putting drivers at risk through late Monday night. Water covered sections of Lee Boulevard south of Interstate 435, while parking lots west of State Line Road began to flood as the creek crested at 22.3 feet this afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in Kansas City/Pleasant Hill, the Flood Warning for Indian Creek at Stateline Road remains in effect until late tonight. Officials reported minor flooding at 1:30 p.m. Monday, with water already above the 20-foot flood stage. The creek is projected to fall below flood stage by early evening and recede to safer levels—around 10.4 feet—by Tuesday afternoon.

Motorists in Leawood, Jackson County, and Johnson County are urged to avoid flooded roads and heed posted barricades. Emergency management warns that most flood deaths occur in vehicles; “Turn around, don’t drown” is the rule tonight. Commuters on Lee Boulevard and State Line Road should expect detours and parking restrictions until waters recede.

Residents should prepare for potential additional advisories if heavy rain returns. Stay alert for road closures and check local updates. Flood warnings remain until conditions improve overnight.
