Kansas City, MO – Kansas City residents should prepare for elevated fire risks starting today as warm temperatures and strong gusty winds increase the potential for wildfires. The National Weather Service warns that any outdoor burning is highly discouraged due to windy conditions today and into early Tuesday. Daytime highs will near record levels, reaching around 84°F Monday and 82°F Tuesday.

According to the National Weather Service, the strongest winds will occur this afternoon and Monday, with gusts reaching up to 34 mph today and 40 mph Monday. The south winds are expected to push temperatures above normal, which—combined with the dry air—creates a fire-prone environment across Kansas City, particularly along the I-70 corridor.

A significant weather shift is expected Wednesday, with showers and thunderstorms likely by afternoon, and some storms could turn severe with high gusts. Rainfall may bring relief to the dry conditions, though storm severity could pose other risks. Midweek temperatures will cool down, peaking at around 75°F on Wednesday before dropping to 58°F on Thursday.

5-Day Forecast for Kansas City:
