KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Hazardous heat will grip much of Missouri through Saturday, with heat index values pushing between 100°F and 105°F. Southerly winds of 15 to 20 mph are expected to offset morning cloud cover, keeping dangerous heat in place despite brief shading.

According to the National Weather Service in Kansas City, Friday’s highs will reach the low to mid-90s, with the most intense heat stretching from Kansas City south toward Butler and east toward Sedalia. Northern Missouri, including Maryville and Kirksville, could see slightly lower readings if clouds persist.

Saturday brings even greater certainty for oppressive conditions, with high temperatures in the mid-90s and similar 100–105°F heat index values. Overnight lows will stay in the mid-70s along the Missouri-Kansas border, preventing significant relief for residents and raising health risks.

The heat threat may persist into Sunday, though increased cloud cover and possible showers Monday could bring some cooling. Officials urge residents to limit strenuous outdoor activity, stay hydrated, and check on vulnerable neighbors.
