Kansas City, MO – Strong winds and an increased fire risk will impact Missouri on Friday, followed by a threat of severe thunderstorms Saturday night.

According to the National Weather Service in Kansas City, winds will start from the southwest Friday morning before shifting northwest in the afternoon. Gusts of 30-40 mph are expected, with isolated gusts exceeding 45 mph. The dry and windy conditions will elevate fire weather concerns, especially in central and northern Missouri, where relative humidity levels are expected to drop between 25-35%.

By Saturday, isolated showers are possible during the day, but the main threat arrives Saturday night when strong to severe thunderstorms could develop. Areas south of U.S. Highway 36 are at the highest risk, with large hail being the primary hazard.

Residents are advised to avoid outdoor burning on Friday and stay alert for changing weather conditions on Saturday. More updates will be provided as forecasts evolve.
