Wichita, KS – Residents preparing for Christmas morning travel should be cautious, as dense fog is expected to persist through midday. Visibility may drop to less than a quarter mile, creating hazardous conditions for drivers.
According to the National Weather Service in Wichita, fog is likely to begin tonight after 11 p.m. and intensify overnight. Motorists traveling on major routes, including I-135 and U.S. 400, should plan for reduced visibility during the morning hours on Wednesday. The fog is expected to clear by noon, with temperatures rising into the upper 40s by the afternoon under mostly cloudy skies.
Christmas evening will remain calm, with temperatures falling into the low 30s under partly cloudy conditions. Winds will stay light, averaging 5 to 7 mph throughout the day.
Looking ahead, Thursday brings a slight chance of rain, with daytime highs reaching the mid-50s. Patchy fog may develop again overnight, but visibility is not expected to be as severe. Friday and Saturday will offer drier, sunnier conditions, with highs nearing 57 degrees and lows in the upper 30s.
For those traveling or hosting outdoor gatherings, the weekend forecast is ideal for holiday activities. However, anyone heading out early on Christmas morning should allow extra time and proceed cautiously, especially on bridges and overpasses where slick spots may form.
