Wichita, KS – Residents in Kansas can expect a sunny Halloween, but conditions will shift as rain and thunderstorms develop late Friday and continue into the weekend. The National Weather Service (NWS) warns that locally heavy rain is likely, especially from Saturday to Monday, potentially causing hazardous travel on Highway 54 and nearby roads.

According to NWS Wichita, Friday will bring mostly clear skies with highs near 68°F, offering a warm, calm start to November. However, showers are expected late Friday night, with an 80% chance of rain, accompanied by gusty winds up to 21 mph. Rain will intensify Saturday, with a 100% chance of thunderstorms throughout the day and a high of 64°F. Southeast Kansas could see flooding in low-lying areas due to heavy downpours.

NWS forecasts Sunday to continue the wet trend, with storms likely before noon and lingering showers through Monday. Highs will hover around 69°F. Those traveling or planning outdoor activities should monitor local forecasts and stay updated on changing conditions.

The weekend’s severe weather marks a significant shift from the seasonable temperatures earlier this week. Wichita’s NWS advises caution, as heavy rainfall may lead to flash flooding in certain areas. Be prepared for potential delays on main roads like Highway 54 and avoid driving through flooded areas.

Residents should take necessary precautions, secure outdoor items, and ensure gutters are clear to prevent localized flooding. With rain likely to persist into next week, Kansas will need to stay weather-aware.
