Kansas City, MO – A dangerous stretch of heat will grip much of Missouri and eastern Kansas through Saturday evening, with heat index values soaring as high as 106°F.

According to the National Weather Service in Kansas City, a Heat Advisory remains in effect from 1 p.m. Friday until 7 p.m. Saturday, impacting areas from Atchison, KS to Kirksville, MO. Actual temperatures will climb into the 90s, but the combination of high humidity and limited overnight cooling will increase the risk of heat-related illness.

Cities under the advisory include Kansas City, St. Joseph, Columbia, Warrensburg, and Overland Park. Friday night lows will remain uncomfortably warm — between 75 and 78 degrees — offering little relief for those without access to air conditioning. Vulnerable groups, especially the elderly and young children, should be closely monitored.

Residents are urged to stay hydrated, avoid strenuous outdoor activities during peak hours, and check on neighbors. Light, loose-fitting clothing and frequent breaks in the shade or air conditioning are essential for anyone working outdoors. OSHA recommends limiting exertion and scheduling regular cool-down periods.

The advisory may be extended if temperatures stay elevated. Stay updated via weather.gov/eax.
