Beloit, Kansas – Light snow will spread across north central Kansas by 6 p.m., creating slick roads through the overnight hours and into the Saturday morning commute.

According to the National Weather Service in Hastings, a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 6 p.m. this evening until 6 a.m. CST Saturday for Mitchell, Osborne and Rooks counties.

Forecasters expect up to 2 inches of snow. Even light accumulation will reduce traction on untreated pavement as temperatures hover near freezing.

Road conditions will deteriorate after sunset.

U.S. Highway 24 near Stockton and Beloit, along with U.S. Highway 281 through Osborne and Mitchell counties, may become snow-covered overnight. Rural roads and bridges will be especially slick before sunrise Saturday.

The morning commute could be slippery.

Drivers should slow down, increase following distance and check kandrive.gov or call 511 for updated road conditions before traveling.

Snow tapers around daybreak Saturday, but isolated slick spots may persist into mid-morning. The Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 6 a.m. CST Saturday.
