Kankakee, IL – The Kankakee Public Library will host “A Taste of Juneteenth Celebration” on June 18, 2024, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
This free, all-ages event, presented in partnership with the Community Foundation of Kankakee River Valley, promises a rich array of activities spread across the library’s floors, celebrating freedom and community.
According to the library, attendees can enjoy a variety of musical performances and food samples by KayDz Eatz on the first floor. Highlights include a special performance by James Render III, Kankakee High School Band Director. The second floor will feature a reading by Dr. Janice Hooker Fortman, an acclaimed speaker and author, alongside crafts tailored for kids and teens.
The third floor will transform into a vibrant marketplace with a pop-up shop featuring local vendors. From 12 to 1 p.m., guests can enjoy the smooth sounds of Joliet saxophonist Ellis Wright. This event not only commemorates Juneteenth but also fosters a sense of community through diverse activities.
