KANKAKEE — The investigation into Monday’s shocking daylight shooting has reached a significant turn.

Early Tuesday morning Kankakee City Police responded to a gunshot victim report at 2300 E Court St. Officers found a 24-year-old male, grazed by a bullet, standing outside vehicle holding a child. Inside, a 22-year-old woman, critically injured from several gunshot wounds, was immediately rushed to Riverside Medical Center.

According to Kankakee Police reports, after a thorough examination, detectives traced back the actual crime scene to the 200 block of Crestlane’s parking lot. After the incident, the victims had driven to E. Court St. to notify the police.

The turning point arrived earlier this morning when Bradley Police, during a routine traffic check on S. Schuyler Ave., apprehended Dejour Turner-Owens, 35, of Kankakee, from a 2008 Mercury. Identified as the prime suspect in the Crestlane shooting, Turner-Owens now faces two counts of Aggravated Battery with a Firearm and an additional IDOC warrant charge.

The Kankakee Police Department credits the community and the collaboration of local and state law enforcement for making this arrest possible.
