Kankakee, IL – A Kankakee woman is facing multiple felony charges after police say a violent domestic confrontation Tuesday morning escalated into an alleged attempted murder and a garage fire that destroyed vehicles on the cityโ€™s north side.

According to the Kankakee Police Department, officers were dispatched at approximately 8:12 a.m. Tuesday to the 800 block of North Greenwood Avenue for a reported domestic disturbance. When officers arrived, police said they were unable to make contact with anyone inside the residence, which appeared to be vacant at the time.

Investigators later determined that a 35-year-old male victim had allegedly been involved in a relationship with 24-year-old Nazhai S. Hill of Kankakee. Police say Hill allegedly traveled to the victimโ€™s home to confront him. Authorities said when the victim did not answer the door, Hill allegedly forced entry into the residence.

According to police, Hill allegedly discovered the victim inside with another woman, which allegedly led to a physical altercation. During the confrontation, investigators say Hill allegedly caused significant damage inside the residence, including breaking windows.

Police further allege Hill poured lighter fluid on the victim and allegedly attempted to set him on fire. The victim was reportedly able to escape the residence and fled to a nearby relativeโ€™s home to seek safety.

Later Tuesday morning at approximately 11:01 a.m., officers were again called to the same location after a structure fire was reported. According to authorities, a detached two-car garage and two vehicles were fully engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived.

While fire crews conducted their investigation, police said the victim returned to the scene and allegedly reported the earlier incident involving Hill to detectives.

At approximately 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, Hill voluntarily arrived at the Kankakee Police Department, where she was interviewed by detectives. Police say Hill was later taken into custody and is currently charged with attempted murder, arson and home invasion.

Authorities say the investigation remains ongoing.
