Kankakee, IL – Residents and business owners in Kankakee now have an expanded opportunity to improve safety and enhance neighborhood security thanks to updates to the city’s Private Security Incentive Program (PSIP). City officials announced that the program has been broadened to include rebates for exterior lighting, in addition to existing support for camera purchases.
According to the City of Kankakee, the expanded incentive program offers up to $200 for residential security cameras and an additional $200 for exterior lighting, giving homeowners a potential total rebate of $400. Businesses and other non-residential properties can receive up to $100 for cameras and $100 for lighting, supporting security improvements across commercial and community spaces.
City leaders say the initiative is designed to improve neighborhood safety while also supporting local revitalization efforts—all without placing added costs on taxpayers. By encouraging property owners to invest in surveillance equipment and lighting, officials hope to deter crime and build stronger community protection networks.
Residents and businesses interested in applying can learn more or submit an application through the city’s Economic and Community Development Agency (ECDA) at ecda.citykankakee-il.gov/camera-incentive-program.
