Kankakee police are warning residents after a burglary suspect posed as a city worker to gain access to a home on Hammes Avenue.
According to the Kankakee Police Department, officers responded to the 700 block of Hammes Avenue on Thursday after a homeowner reported a burglary. Around 12:50 p.m., a man dressed in dark clothing, a mask, and sunglasses approached the residence, claiming he worked for the city and needed access to the backyard.
The homeowner complied, putting on her coat and walking outside to meet him. After waiting for approximately five minutes, she returned indoors and saw the same man leaving her home. The suspect then entered a black SUV and drove away. Upon checking her residence, the homeowner discovered several items missing from her bedroom.
