Kankakee, IL – Residents in Kankakee will soon have a new way to stay active outdoors. Kankakee School District 111, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois, and the National Fitness Campaign announced the opening of a free public Fitness Court® on Wednesday, October 16, at 4:30 PM, located behind Kankakee High School.
According to the National Fitness Campaign, the new outdoor gym will provide free access to high-quality workouts designed for all fitness levels. The Fitness Court® features seven workout stations that allow participants to use their own body weight for a full workout, supported by a mobile app that offers guided exercises and training tips.
“This partnership provides our community with an additional resource for wellness and activity,” said Ronnie Wilcox, athletic director for Kankakee School District 111. Representatives from Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois emphasized their commitment to promoting better health outcomes and reducing healthcare costs through community fitness access.
The Fitness Court® launch is part of a broader initiative to bring wellness resources to communities statewide. Kankakee School District 111 is one of 20 Illinois partners working with Blue Cross and National Fitness Campaign to expand equitable fitness opportunities within a 10-minute bike ride of every resident.
Residents are encouraged to attend the ribbon-cutting event and experience the new outdoor gym firsthand.
