Kankakee, IL – Officer Struck by Hammer During Juvenile Altercation

Kankakee, IL – An alarming incident unfolded late Monday night in Kankakee when a police officer was struck in the leg by a hammer during a confrontation between two juveniles. 

Kankakee City Police were initially called to the 1100 block of W. Jeffrey St. for a weapons-related incident. As officers were concluding their response, they witnessed an ongoing fight involving two young individuals. The scene escalated quickly as one of the juveniles, who was wielding a hammer, allegedly threw it while police were intervening, accidentally hitting an officer. 

The juvenile was subsequently taken into custody but later released to family custody.
