Bourbonnais, IL – Firefighters in the Bourbonnais Fire Protection District are stepping up their training capabilities with the purchase of a new Taylor’d Training Prop, funded by the Bourbonnais Firefighters Foreign Fire Tax Board.
According to Fire Chief James R. Keener, the new prop allows firefighters to perform realistic, scenario-based exercises that simulate conditions faced in the field. The setup supports essential training for tasks such as forcible entry, ventilation, and ladder operations — all within a controlled, hands-on environment.
“The addition of this prop strengthens our ability to provide in-house, scenario-based training that directly supports the work our members perform every day,” Chief Keener said. “We’re grateful to the Foreign Fire Tax Board for their continued dedication to firefighter safety and readiness.”
The Foreign Fire Tax Board is composed of department members and funded through taxes collected from out-of-state insurance companies that sell policies within the district. These funds are used to support firefighter health, welfare, and training initiatives.
Battalion Chief McCrary, President of the Foreign Fire Tax Board, said the investment directly enhances local emergency response capabilities. “It’s a great example of how the Board gives back to our members and the residents we serve,” he said.
The prop will be installed at the district’s training grounds and used for joint drills with neighboring departments.
