Kankakee County, Illinois Bursts to Life This Week with Racing, Rhubarb, and Rocketry

Kankakee, IL — Residents and visitors can look forward to a packed schedule of family-friendly events throughout Kankakee County this week, with attractions ranging from fashion to astronomy, and from local art to high-speed racing.

According to Visit Kankakee County, the festivities begin Wednesday with a Fashion Show Luncheon at the Kankakee Country Club. On Thursday, the spotlight shifts to the dirt track as Friday Night Lights Racing roars into the Kankakee County Speedway with the grandstand opening at 5:30 p.m. and racing at 7 p.m.

Friday brings a trio of events across the county. “Hooray, Bourbonnais!” will take place from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. at The Grove in Bourbonnais, while Downtown Kankakee hosts the weekly Farmers’ Market from 8 a.m. to noon. In the evening, the Strickler Planetarium will feature “100 Years of Eternity,” a special presentation from 6 to 7:30 p.m., followed by the “Great Solar System Adventure” at 4:30 p.m.

Saturday promises even more variety with the 35th Annual Rhubarb Festival from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Kankakee County Museum, and Coffee, Cars & Cigars at the Kankakee Train Depot beginning at 9 a.m. Cyclists can participate in the SKR Kankakee 20k TT, starting at 8 a.m. from Splash Valley Aquatic Park.

Two creative events round out the week on Monday. River Rock Pub & Beer Garden will host a DIY Bee-Themed Wood Sign Workshop from 6 to 8 p.m., while Intrinsic Arts presents their Fire Jam at The Square on 2nd in Manteno from 5 to 9 p.m.
