Kankakee County, IL – A Kankakee teenager was taken into custody late last night after reportedly fleeing from a sheriff’s deputy on a mini-bike.
According to the Kankakee County Sheriff’s Office, the incident began shortly after 11 p.m. when a deputy observed an unregistered motorized mini-bike traveling east on East Court Street. The driver, identified as 18-year-old Leiviy C. McAtee, allegedly attempted to evade the deputy near Crestlane Apartments but lost control and fled on foot. He was apprehended shortly afterward, and a loaded firearm with a defaced serial number was reportedly recovered.
McAtee faces multiple charges, including aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, attempting to flee, and resisting a peace officer. McAtee is currently held at the Jerome Combs Detention Center.
