Kankakee County, IL – A fatal accident involving downed electrical wires occurred on Illinois State Route 113 at Edgewater Drive on Sunday night, resulting in one death and multiple injuries.
According to the Kankakee County Coroner’s Office, the crash happened at 10:17 p.m. when a 2008 Hyundai driven by David Gargo, 32, of Godley, Illinois, reportedly veered off the road and hit a utility pole, causing the vehicle to roll over. The downed electrical wires ensnared a second vehicle, which then caught fire. The driver of the second vehicle was not injured.
Gargo, who suffered non-life-threatening injuries, was arrested by the Illinois State Police on charges of Aggravated DUI resulting in an accident/death. A front seat passenger in Gargo’s car was critically injured and transferred to a Chicago hospital. Ally Tvrz, 26, of Godley, Illinois, a backseat passenger, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The incident is under investigation by the Kankakee County Coroner’s Office and Illinois State Police Troop 5. This marks the 21st motor vehicle fatality in Kankakee County this fiscal year, exceeding last year’s total. The Coroner’s Office advises motorists to drive safely and avoid impaired driving.
