Bourbonnais, IL – Area residents will have an opportunity to safely dispose of unwanted or expired prescription medications during National DEA Drug Take Back Day on Saturday, October 25, 2025, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
According to the Illinois State Police Troop 5 and the Kankakee Area Metropolitan Enforcement Group (KAMEG), the event will take place at the Northfield Square Mall, 1600 North State Route 50 in Bourbonnais. A drive-thru drop-off system will be set up in the mall’s east parking lot for convenient and anonymous disposal.
Officials emphasized that the service is free, anonymous, and no questions will be asked. Residents are encouraged to bring their unwanted prescription medications in tightly sealed original containers. Needles, syringes, and liquid medications will not be accepted.
The initiative, supported by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), aims to prevent drug misuse and accidental exposure by keeping expired or unused medications out of homes. Past collection events have gathered thousands of pounds of medications statewide.
Participating partners include the Kankakee County Health Department, I-KAN Regional Office of Education, Riverside Healthcare, and State Representative Jackie Haas. The Bradley Lions Club will also collect used eyeglasses, while Georgie’s Closet will accept baby diaper donations for local families in need.
