Bradley, IL – Police are warning residents about a surge in scams targeting senior and elderly community members, urging families to stay vigilant this week.

According to the Bradley Police Department, scammers are posing as representatives from companies or government agencies, pressuring victims into urgent financial actions. Authorities said these schemes are designed to trick people into sending money, gift cards, or personal information.

Police reported several tactics now circulating: callers instructing victims to purchase gift cards and send the numbers, withdrawing cash to deposit at Bitcoin machines using QR codes, or giving money to a so-called “courier” who picks it up at the victim’s home. In one case, a victim was allegedly told to buy gold, which was then collected by a courier.

Other scams involve convincing victims to take out personal loans, with suspects coaching them on what to say to bank employees. In addition, police warn of fraudsters directing people to download software on phones or computers, giving scammers remote access to financial accounts.

Authorities are urging residents to check in with elderly relatives, friends, and neighbors, stressing that awareness is the best defense.

“If you or someone you know may be involved in a scam, contact your local police agency immediately,” the department said.
