Kankakee, IL – Heavy snowfall and hazardous travel conditions have prompted school closures across Kankakee County today, Monday, November 10. Both Bradley-Bourbonnais Community High School District 307, Bourbonnais Elementary School District #53 and Bradley Elementary School District 61 announced closures early this morning as lake-effect snow continues to blanket the region.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) Chicago, a Winter Storm Warning remains in effect for Kankakee County until noon CST Monday. The agency reports total snow accumulations of 10 to 14 inches, particularly near and east of Interstate 57, with an additional 1 to 2 inches expected before conditions begin to ease.

District officials cited safety as their top concern. Bradley Elementary stated that the closure will push the final day of the 2025–26 school year to June 2, 2026, while students will also have no school Tuesday in observance of Veterans Day. Classes are expected to resume Wednesday with an early dismissal SIP day.

Motorists are urged to avoid travel if possible. The NWS warns of slippery roads and potentially dangerous visibility during the morning commute.

Officials remind residents to check for updates throughout the day as crews work to clear major routes and intersections.
