Kankakee County, IL – The Kankakee County Health Department is actively promoting measles vaccination for children, highlighting the importance of the measles-mumps-rubella (MMR) vaccine.

According to the department’s recent social media outreach, the first dose of the MMR vaccine is recommended for children at 12-15 months and the second dose at 4-6 years. This campaign comes in response to measles still being a common disease in many parts of the world, with unvaccinated travelers often bringing the infection to the U.S.

The health department is offering the vaccine for all ages and encourages parents to ensure vaccination for their children, especially before international travel. For more information, the department directs to the CDC’s resources on measles and vaccination protocols.
