Kankakee, IL – Kankakee Community College’s Radiography program has received initial accreditation from the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT), marking a major milestone for the college and its health sciences department.

According to KCC officials, the recognition is the highest standard in radiologic education, confirming that the program meets national benchmarks in integrity, innovation, and clinical excellence. “Achieving initial accreditation from JRCERT represents a significant achievement for our program,” said Rebecca Sherry, professor and director of Radiography at KCC. “It assures students they are joining a program grounded in integrity, innovation, and nationally recognized standards.”

The voluntary process resulted in a three-year accreditation — the maximum possible for an initial award. KCC now joins just 28 accredited Radiography programs statewide.

The two-year program prepares students for careers as radiographers or radiologic technologists, skilled professionals who capture medical images using ionizing radiation. Graduates work in hospitals, surgical centers, and outpatient imaging facilities across Illinois.

KCC’s curriculum includes coursework in anatomy, radiation safety, imaging analysis, and patient care. Students gain hands-on experience through partnerships with eight Illinois hospitals and multiple clinics. Up to 20 students are accepted into the program each summer term.
