The day-long Pyrotechnic-Fireworks & Explosives Training Program will be held on January 8, 2026, at the Army Aviation Support Facility #2 in Kankakee, hosted by the Kankakee Fire Department. A second session is scheduled for January 22, 2026, at the Bill Dalton Training Center in Alsip, hosted by the Alsip Fire Department and Sprinkler Fitters Local #281.
According to the OSFM, the program provides professional instruction on handling fireworks, pyrotechnics, and special effects, with an emphasis on state and federal safety standards from agencies such as OSFM, ATF, DOT, OSHA, and NFPA.
Topics include consumer fireworks sales (1.4G), professional display fireworks (1.3G), and proximate pyrotechnics for indoor and outdoor venues. Attendees will also learn about safety planning, storage, emergency response, and Illinois-specific licensing and permit requirements.
