Aurora, IL – Parents, students, and staff at Marmion Academy faced concern Thursday after police announced an investigation into a threatening online post directed at the private high school.

According to the Aurora Police Department, officers were alerted late on October 2 to a social media post containing threatening language about the academy. The message spread quickly online, prompting heightened safety measures on campus.

Investigators worked through the night and added extra officers at the school before classes began Friday. Aurora Police coordinated with Marmion officials and the social media platform to trace the source of the post.

Detectives determined the post came from a 14-year-old male student who was not present at school on October 3. Police said the student admitted to creating the post, which was later deleted. While officers confirmed there was no actual threat to students or staff, the student was charged with disorderly conduct related to transmitting a school threat. The Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office referred the case to Juvenile Court Services.

Aurora Police Chief Matt Thomas emphasized the seriousness of school-related threats, stating: “The safety of our students and staff will always remain a top priority, and we will pursue charges when appropriate to hold individuals accountable.”

Police reminded the public that any threat, even if intended as a hoax, is treated as serious and disruptive to school safety.

The Aurora Police Department asks anyone with school safety concerns to contact its Investigations Division at (630) 256-5500.
