Elgin, IL – The 45th annual Scandinavian Day Festival will return to Vasa Park in South Elgin on Sunday, Sept. 7, offering a full day of cultural celebration, entertainment and family activities.

According to event organizers, the festival runs from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at 35W217 Route 31, beginning with an outdoor church service at 10:30 a.m. followed by an official welcome and opening ceremony at 11:30 a.m.

Visitors can expect traditional Scandinavian food and beverages such as lingonberry saft, fried herring, pølse, köttbullar, kringle and Æbleskiver. Homemade lefse, cookies and cakes prepared by members of Sons of Norway Polar Star Lodge will also be available.

Entertainment throughout the day will include performances by the Nordic Folk Dancers of Chicago, Libido Funk Circus, Danish singers Anita Lerche and Bo Riemer, and Leikarringen Heimhug Dancers. Children’s programming features crafts, face painting, story time with Elsa and free pony rides.

A vendor walkway will highlight artisan crafts, collectibles and exhibits from Scandinavian cultural organizations, while a living history display along the Fox River will showcase Viking-era reenactments and storytelling. A bakery booth operated by members of Montgomery-based Sons of Norway Polar Star Lodge 5-472 will also offer homemade lefse, cookies and cakes for sale.
