St. Charles, IL – A St. Charles man has been sentenced to seven years in prison after allegedly leading officers on a high-speed pursuit while intoxicated, following a domestic incident in Kane County.

According to the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office, Robert S. Lord, 54, entered a guilty plea on Friday to aggravated fleeing and eluding a peace officer, a Class 3 felony, and driving under the influence of alcohol, a Class A misdemeanor. Judge Camargo accepted the plea agreement. Authorities said the incident began on September 15, when officers responded to a domestic dispute. After learning police had been called, Lord allegedly entered a vehicle while intoxicated and attempted to leave the scene.

Officers reportedly located Lord soon after, initiating a high-speed chase. According to Assistant State’s Attorney Katy Flannagan, officers used multiple techniques—including deploying spike strips—to stop Lord’s vehicle, resulting in damage to sheriff’s department property. Despite having his vehicle disabled by the spike strips, Lord allegedly tried to continue fleeing before finally being stopped and arrested. Officers then obtained a warrant to draw his blood and test for alcohol, but Lord reportedly continued to refuse cooperation.

Under Illinois law, Lord is eligible for day-for-day sentencing credit. He was credited with 472 days already served in Kane County jail and was given an extended term based on prior criminal history.

“This conviction and sentence should serve as a warning for every motorist in Kane County,” Flannagan said in a statement, emphasizing that fleeing police and driving under the influence will be prosecuted to the fullest extent.

Authorities thanked the Campton Hills Police Department and Kane County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance in the case.
