Kane County, IL – A Streamwood man faces up to 67 years in prison after a Kane County jury found him guilty of sexually assaulting and strangling a child on multiple occasions, prosecutors announced Tuesday.
According to Kane County State’s Attorney Jamie L. Mosser’s office, Quinton K. Hawkins was found guilty Thursday, Aug. 13, following a three-day jury trial.
Hawkins was convicted of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child, a Class X felony; aggravated criminal sexual abuse, a Class 2 felony; and two counts of aggravated domestic battery involving strangulation, also Class 2 felonies.
Prosecutors said the abuse occurred on multiple occasions between Aug. 1, 2023, and March 15, 2024. Evidence presented during the trial showed Hawkins strangled and sexually assaulted the child and attempted to prevent the victim from speaking about the abuse by threatening the child, according to the state’s attorney’s office.
The allegations were uncovered after the child told a teacher and school social worker about the strangulation. The school contacted Elgin police, who then involved the Kane County Child Advocacy Center.
Assistant State’s Attorney Stacey Wittman praised the child for speaking to trusted adults despite the alleged threats.
“I am grateful this child had a teacher and social worker she could trust to begin to talk about the abuse she was suffering,” Wittman said.
Hawkins remains in custody at the Kane County Jail.
His next court appearance is scheduled for Oct. 14 at the Kane County Judicial Center, when motions and sentencing will be addressed. Prosecutors said Hawkins faces between six and 67 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections.
He will also be required to register as a sex offender for life under Illinois law, according to prosecutors.
