Geneva, IL – Drivers in downtown Geneva should expect traffic delays Friday, Sept. 26, as the city celebrates Geneva High School’s annual homecoming parade.

According to the Geneva Police Department, State Street (Route 38) between Third and Ninth streets will close beginning at 2 p.m. to accommodate the event. Additional roads along the parade route also will be shut down, including:

  • Geneva High School/Stevens Street east to Anderson Boulevard
  • Anderson Boulevard south to State Street
  • State Street east to Third Street
  • Third Street north to Hamilton Street

Police said a marked detour will guide eastbound motorists from State Street to Ninth Street, then east on James Street, north on Third Street, and back to State Street. Westbound drivers will follow the reverse route.

The closures will also affect Third Street from State to Stevens streets, as well as Stevens Street between Third Street and McKinley Avenue. Police officers will provide traffic control, but officials urge drivers to use caution due to large crowds expected for the event.

All streets are scheduled to reopen by 3:30 p.m., officials confirmed.
