Charleston residents will wake up to dense fog Tuesday morning, creating dangerous driving conditions along I-64 and other Kanawha Valley roads. Low visibility could delay commutes and make rural highways especially hazardous before sunshine breaks through later in the day.

According to the National Weather Service in Charleston, patchy fog will reduce visibility to less than a mile in some locations until mid-morning Tuesday. Drivers should allow extra travel time, use low beams, and avoid sudden stops on bridges and curves. Conditions will improve by late morning as skies clear and temperatures rise.

By Tuesday afternoon, Charleston will warm to near 80 degrees under clear skies and light winds. Nights remain cool, with temperatures dipping into the upper 40s, offering an early taste of fall across the Kanawha Valley. The trend of sunny, dry days continues through the week, with afternoon highs climbing into the mid-80s by Thursday.

The stretch of dry weather will help road crews and outdoor workers, but dry soil and grass may also increase fire danger. Residents should avoid burning brush or debris during the warm afternoons ahead. With calmer winds and clear skies, evenings will remain comfortable for outdoor events and high school sports across central West Virginia.

Weather conditions are expected to stay stable into the weekend, with only minor fluctuations in daytime highs. Fog will likely return during early mornings this week, keeping commuters on alert.
