Cross Lanes, WV – A second arrest has been made in connection with a high-value theft at a United Rentals location in Kanawha County, involving stolen vehicles, heavy equipment, and off-road utility machines.
According to the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office, Elizabeth Nicole Clay, 41, of Charleston, was arrested on Wednesday, January 7, and charged with Entry of a Building Other Than a Dwelling and Grand Larceny.
Deputies say the crime occurred on Friday, December 19, 2025, at United Rentals, located at 573 New Goff Mountain Road in Cross Lanes, Kanawha County, within the Charleston metro area. Investigators allege that a male suspect entered the property and stole a Ford F-550, a flatbed trailer, and two side-by-side off-road utility vehicles.
According to authorities, the suspect allegedly used an excavator to force open a fence, allowing the stolen vehicles and equipment to be removed from the property.
During the investigation, deputies learned that a stolen white U-Haul truck was also used in the theft and that another suspect was involved. The total value of the stolen property is estimated at approximately $85,000.
On Thursday, December 25, 2025, James Quesenberry was stopped while driving the stolen U-Haul truck. Investigators later determined the vehicle had been used during the United Rentals theft. According to deputies, a search of Quesenberry’s cellphone revealed conversations with Clay from the night of the theft discussing the location of a truck.
Based on that information, a search warrant was obtained for Clay’s cellphone. Deputies say text messages were found allegedly discussing the sale of stolen property the day after the theft.
Clay is currently being held at the South Central Regional Jail on a $2,500 cash-only bond. The investigation remains ongoing.
Anyone arrested is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
