Marmet, WV – A high-speed pursuit involving Charleston Police and the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office ended in a violent crash on Interstate 64 Friday afternoon near Marmet, authorities confirmed.

According to the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office, the chase began around 1:30 p.m. after Charleston Police issued a be-on-the-lookout alert for a Ford F-250 with Michigan license plates. The suspect allegedly struck a Charleston Police cruiser while driving the wrong way through the city before fleeing eastbound on Kanawha Boulevard.

Deputies located the truck near Daniel Boone Park, where the driver reportedly accelerated to speeds near 100 mph and crossed into oncoming lanes before entering I-64 toward Belle. Kanawha County deputies then took over the pursuit with assistance from West Virginia State Police.

The chase continued east on I-64 with the vehicle maintaining speeds above 90 mph. Authorities deployed spike strips, but the driver continued onto the shoulder, forcing other motorists off the road. Near the 71-mile marker, the truck lost control and crashed.

Emergency crews are working to extract the male driver, who remains entrapped. No officers or members of the public were injured, and the investigation remains ongoing.

The identity of the driver has not been released. Additional updates will be shared as more details become available.
