Kalama, WA – A wanted suspect was found dead Tuesday evening after a SWAT operation in Kalama ended with a gunshot heard inside a home, according to the Cowlitz County Sheriff’s Office.
Detectives with the Cowlitz County Crime Reduction Team assisted the Kelso and Longview Police Departments in locating Dayshawn Joshua Namock, 26, of Longview, who was wanted for escape from community custody and several felony warrants, including robbery and assault.
According to the sheriff’s office, officers tracked Namock to a residence in the 100 block of Star Road in Kalama, where he was reportedly staying with a woman. After law enforcement established a perimeter and ordered occupants out, the woman, her child, and another adult exited safely. Namock did not respond.
The Lower Columbia SWAT Team was then activated. During an extensive search, a muffled gunshot was heard from the attic. Using a pole camera, officers located Namock unresponsive inside. He appeared to have suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
A semiautomatic pistol and the assault victim’s stolen phone were recovered nearby. Medics confirmed Namock was deceased at the scene. The Cowlitz County Coroner’s Office has taken custody of the body and will conduct further examination.
Authorities said the homeowners were not aware the suspect was inside before the operation.
