JUNEAU, Alaska – Mariners across the Gulf of Alaska are being warned of hazardous conditions as storm-force winds and heavy seas build through tonight and into Wednesday. The National Weather Service in Juneau has issued a Storm Warning for offshore waters east of 144°W, with winds expected to reach 50 knots before easing by early Wednesday.

According to the NWS Juneau office, southwest winds will strengthen this evening, producing seas up to 19 feet and occasional thunderstorms overnight. Conditions are forecast to remain rough through Wednesday with sustained winds near 35 knots and seas between 15 and 18 feet. Mariners are urged to stay in port or avoid travel in open waters until conditions improve midweek.

By Wednesday night, southeast gales will return, bringing another round of rain and high surf. Winds are expected to gradually ease late Thursday, though choppy seas will persist into the weekend.

Boaters should secure gear, check communications, and monitor marine radios for updated advisories. Additional warnings may be issued if storm conditions intensify.

Warnings remain in effect through early Wednesday morning
