Fort Wayne, IN – July in northern Indiana was marked by cooler-than-average temperatures, despite a trend of unusually high temperatures for the year. According to the US National Weather Service Northern Indiana, the region experienced no 90-degree days in July, a stark contrast to the norm of five such days.

July temperatures averaged 72.5°F in both Fort Wayne and South Bend, making it the 38th and 55th coolest July on record for these cities, respectively. However, year-to-date temperatures tell a different story, ranking within the top five warmest on record. Fort Wayne’s average temperature for the year stands at 53.7°F, the 4th warmest, while South Bend’s average of 52.9°F ranks 5th warmest.

Rainfall patterns were also variable, with Fort Wayne recording 2.14 inches, making it the 22nd driest July, while South Bend saw 4.67 inches, the 36th wettest July on record. Despite the drier month, both cities have seen precipitation totals well above normal for the year-to-date, with Fort Wayne at 25.61 inches and South Bend at 26.95 inches.

Looking ahead, the forecast suggests a continuation of above-average temperatures and variable rainfall patterns. The National Weather Service advises residents to stay prepared for potential pop-up showers and storms, which could impact local activities and travel plans.
