Jonesborough, Tennessee – A Johnson City man was arrested in Jonesborough on aggravated burglary charges following an apartment break-in investigation.
According to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, deputies arrested Shawn Wayne Scott, 50, shortly before midnight on Monday after responding to a reported burglary at an apartment on Minga Drive.
Sheriff Keith Sexton said Scott was wanted for allegedly cutting a hole through a closet wall to access the apartment next door and removing items from the residence. The burglary was reported by the daughter of the former resident, who had recently died and was monitoring the apartment using security cameras.
Deputies initially were unable to enter the apartment because of a security door barricaded from inside. Once access was gained, deputies observed multiple items disturbed and scattered throughout the residence, according to the sheriff’s office. Investigators also discovered a hole in the wall that led directly into the adjoining apartment.
After entering the neighboring unit, deputies reportedly located items belonging to the former resident of the burglarized apartment.
Scott was later found sleeping inside a vehicle parked in front of the residence and was taken into custody without incident, authorities said.
