Jonesborough, TN – A Knoxville man who arrived at the Washington County Detention Center on Sunday allegedly ended up in handcuffs himself after deputies discovered drugs, paraphernalia, and a loaded handgun, according to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.
According to Sheriff Keith Sexton, the man arrived at the facility around 4:30 p.m. Sunday to post bond for a female inmate. Detention Officers recognized him and confirmed he allegedly had active warrants from the Washington County Sheriff’s Office for Violation of Probation and from Johnson City Police for an alleged shoplifting incident involving property valued under $1,000.
Deputies made contact with the man, who allegedly provided a false name multiple times, according to officials. After verifying his identity, deputies searched him and allegedly found a clear bag in his front pocket containing a white crystal-like substance believed to be methamphetamine. Booking Officers also overheard him state he had additional drugs in his vehicle, the sheriff’s office reported.
A K9 officer alerted on the vehicle, where deputies allegedly found crystal-like residue in both a cup holder and a baggie, as well as a pipe with residue in the center console. Deputies say a loaded semi-automatic handgun was also discovered in the glove box.
