Joliet, IL – An armed robbery on Silver Leaf Drive in Joliet has prompted an active investigation. The incident occurred Thursday morning at 10:55 a.m. when a male suspect approached two 17-year-old females sitting in a parked Pontiac Grand Am.
The suspect approached the passenger side of the vehicle, pressed a handgun against the passenger’s neck, and demanded her purse. He then grabbed the vehicle’s keys from the driver. During a struggle over the keys, the suspect fired a shot, hitting the driver’s side door. The teens fled, chasing the suspect as he ran eastbound through the neighborhood. He was last seen near a residence on Silver Falls Street.
A shelter-in-place order was issued for the surrounding area, including Troy Heritage School. The order was lifted after a police search.
Two additional suspects were later identified and taken into custody. Police are still searching for the original suspect. Anyone with information is urged to contact Joliet Police or Will County Crime Stoppers.
